Rest in peace, Abuela.

Mi abuela murió hoy. A pesar de que supuso que sería el primero, ahora estoy obligado a darse cuenta de que ella no será la última.

Te amo mucho, Abuela(y Abuelo).

They will be missed..

So the school year is finished. Well, finished for the English program, but not for the students. They have their Thai exams next week. Several of my students asked me if I was teaching again next year; I was proud to be able to tell them yes!, but then sad to tell them I wouldn't be teaching P6 with them. I handed out certificates, and posed for a zillion pictures with them. It was a bittersweet day; I am very proud of them all, but sad to say goodbye to them as my classes.

SEHT LAEO!!

Finished! All 260 exams have been graded, retests have been administered to those not passing the first time around, and teacher materials have been returned. It was a long week, but it's good to have everything done. It took staying after school super late the last two days..but it was well worth the work. Now to start planning for Summer School...

Finals

It's finals week, and my students are busy taking advantage of their last opportunity to show me what they've learned. They take a writing exam first, then a listening exam the following class. The third day of finals week is for retests(those who didn't pass the writing test the first time). I'm very proud of (most of) my students; they've worked very hard this year, and many of them have come a LONG way from where they were when we started nine months ago. Tomorrow and Thursday I will be handing out awards and certificates for the top five students in each class, as well as the most improved student(s) in each class.

Dear Obama..

Every month on the 19th(and any other day of the month that they feel like it) the red shirts have a demonstration/protest where they fill the street in front of CentralWorld, and sections of Sukhumvit Rd with their loud music, noisemakers, bullhorns, and car horns.

One red shirt in particular had a message for Obama:

lol..I'm pretty sure Obama couldn't care less what's going on in Thailand...let alone be trying to "intervene"

Valentine's Day

I REALLY didn't want to teach today, not just because it was Valentine's Day, but also because it was a Monday, and Mondays have been pretty awful lately, so I planned in advance to have a party in each class today. It worked beautifully. My 5/5class played blind hide-and-seek, my 5/2 class sang songs and lounged on the classroom couch while doing their word search, my 5/3 class challenged me to a game of Uno(but with letters, not numbers) and I kicked their butts at it, and my 5/4 class danced around and showered me with stickers. It was a good day.

Chinese New Year

Okay, so I'm a week late. But I've been busy, what with Ryan arriving last weekend and all. I just didn't have a chance. I did get in some good shows though, and am excited to share them with ya'll. Chinese New Year in Asia! Although I didn't get a chance to wear my Chinese dress(there's always next year), I did go out and enjoy what Bangkok had to offer.

Because Dance is more important than Learning

Last Saturday night our school put on their annual spring show, and I decided to go see it. This of course meant standing for 3 hours(seats at the tables with food were about 3000B a head), but I survived. Standing feet from the stage, jumbled in with all the proud, and sometimes too excited, parents, I did my best to get as many good shots as I could. The little ones were adorable, my kids did fantastic, and the mathayom(high school) students blew me away. Well done.
